A word from the Chair of Governors

On behalf of the governing board of Heltwate School I would like to offer you a warm welcome to the governors’ section of the school website.

I have been a governor here for five years and chairperson for the last two years.  I work closely with the Headteacher and senior staff to ensure Heltwate continues to meet its high standards offering outstanding quality of care and education in a safe and secure environment.

I work alongside governors who have a wealth of specialist knowledge in the fields of health, finance, business, education and social care.  This enables us to hold the school to account and set its strategic direction, thus demonstrating good governance.  The governors are highly committed to Heltwate’s success.  All share in the Learning Sharing Growing Caring ethos of the school and strongly support its Vision and Aims.  The governors give their time and expertise on a voluntary basis and are willing to do so because the pupils and staff are such a joy to work with.  We are looking forward to our future challenges with enthusiasm and creativity.

We all take pleasure from being involved in Heltwate’s many school events.  I particularly enjoy awarding certificates at the end of year Presentation Evening celebrating the leavers’ achievements.  Our role is very rewarding because we are invited to attend the wonderful school performances at Harvest and Christmas time as well as supporting Macmillan Coffee Mornings and the other charitable events that Heltwate hosts.  We meet many parents and carers and we are always happy to hear from you.  If you would like to be involved with the governing body or become involved in the Friends of Heltwate we are always looking for people to champion our young people.  Please telephone our Clerk, Mrs Leigh Bowes at the school office for more information.

I look forward to meeting many more of you in the future.  With very best wishes,

Heather Mizen
