Heltwate School

  • Admissions

Heltwate School is a special school for children and young people aged 4 to 19 years old with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). All young people have an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP).

The Local Authority is the admitting authority and will liaise with the school for each pupil's application. Admission to Heltwate School takes place after a full multi-professional assessment of the child. Parent/carer involvement in the process is imperative, and we hold monthly parent/carer tours of the school. To register for a tour please email pupiladmin@heltwate.net and an online form will be emailed to you with dates of tours and to gather some information about your child.

The Local Authority is responsible for the decision whether to place a child or young person in a special school.  A provision panel with a multi-professional membership considers individual children or young people with a statement or Education Health and Care Plan where a special school placement is requested and advises the Local Authority. The Local Authority will use their admission guidance when looking at school placement, which can be found on Peterborough City Council Local offer.
