We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled and motivated professional to join our Senior Leadership Team as an Assistant Headteacher from January 2026.

We are looking for a person who is dedicated to improving the life experiences and opportunities of children and young people with SEND, allowing pupils ‘to be the best they can be!’

Heltwate School is a 213-place special school in Peterborough for pupils aged 4 to 19 years old with a wide range of Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). The school operated as one school across 3 separate sites within the city. You will be a member of the senior leadership team providing effective day to day running and leadership of one of the sites and overseeing the delivery and assessing the impact of the curriculum.

  • are a creative and innovative teacher who is committed to meeting the needs of pupils.
  • have successful experience of leading whole school initiatives.
  • have knowledge and experience of teaching pupils with a wide range of learning needs.
  • have experience of planning, delivering and monitoring a curriculum for pupils with diverse learning needs.
  • have good organisational skills and interpersonal skills forming positive and professional relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
  • have a clear and up to date knowledge and understanding of relevant safeguarding legislation and the ability to promote a culture of safeguarding across the school.
  • can build positive and effective working relationships with other professionals and stakeholders and can work as part of a team.
